ICES Theme Chapels
This year the theme at ICES is "Playing our Part in God's Story" Our theme passage is Ephesians 2: 8-10:
"For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— 9 not by works, so that no one can boast. 10 For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do."
We want students to actively engage in their learning and to see engage and embrace their calling as part of the bigger picture of God's story of creation and redemption and moving His plans forward. As a way of inspiring students and helping them see different ways in which people are following their calling, we are asking people from our school society to be guest speakers at our chapels. So far we have had Mr. Sinke (paramedic), Mr. Brandsma (artist), Mrs. Nieboer (Edu Deo Ministries volnteer and former ICES teacher) and Mikaela Konynenbelt (former ICES student) talk about hearning God's call, the work they do and how they glorify God through it. For our God - Worshipping speaker we had Pastor Mark Dyck come and share a message of celebrating that we are all different and we can glorify God with our unique abilities. During Christian Education week we had a panel of parents - Scott Van'tland (chicken farmer), Clint de leeuw (cattle buyer), Amy Ovinge (bee keeper), Sandy Van Reeuwyk (nurse) and Dr. Sam De Walle speak about serving God through thier different occupations. We also have regular skits involving ICES staff members to help shed light and life on the various throughlines listed below.
The throughline themes of servant working, creation enjoying, order discovering, image reflecting, justice seeking, earth keeping, community building, idolatry discerning, God worshipping and beauty creating will all be explored and students will learn to see and embrace the diversity found in God's kingdom and in His followers!
